Business angels are wealthy individuals who invest in high growth businesses in return for equity. Some invest on their own; others invest as part of a consortium. They will invest individually anything from £5,000 to £500,000 and will contribute to bigger investment deals. 

Essentially, business angels invest based on their belief in the ability of the people involved to grow a profitable business. They will often make their skills and contacts available to the company, although many expect to monitor progress and may seek involvement in significant decisions.
